Chapter Ten

I prepared myself for the birth with dark meditation.

I anticipated welcoming a new life into our family. But things did not go as expected...

Triplets. I now had twin toddler and infant triplets. I'm pretty sure that old woman was somewhere cackling with delight. I named my triplet sons: Hunter, Jasper, and Gavner. I hoped at least one of them was a vampire. If not, I might just quit and let the Grim take me. I thought I was busy before, but now I existed on an entirely new level of insanity.

Between endless diapers and bottles, I completed the second book of my latest series and decided to tackle a challenging freelance job: write a mystery. The payout was too good to pass up. I also focused on skilling up the twins. I needed them to age up before the triplets for my own sanity. Luckily the twins picked up skills quickly and only needed encouraging here and there.

I hit my first wall when my mystery was sent back for editing. That wasn't the first occasion I'd needed to edit my work, but the last time I didn't have two toddlers and three babies. I edited the book and then was told it wasn't up to standards. They were tossing the entire novel and I'd need to rewrite it. I was fit to be tied.

It was later in the evening and the girls were cranky as could be when they'd both skilled up enough for me to make a birthday cake.

They blew out the candles quickly and without fanfare so I could tuck them into bed before I'd start rewriting the mystery book. Daria grew up with the Music Lover trait and the Social Butterfly aspiration. Bianca  developed the Erratic trait and had the same aspiration.

I was stressed from the lack of relaxation. I bought and downed a tonic to sort myself out.

The triplets squalled much of the night. I think I spent more time tending to them than writing, despite that I finished rewriting the novel within the deadline.

I submitted the rewritten novel only to have it sent back for editing. The boys were wailing and I used the little time left before the deadline to care for them. All those hours at the computer and they pulled the contract, giving me just a token amount for compensation. I was furious. If I had the opportunity I'd drain every ounce of blood from their body. Instead I sucked down some plasma and listened to the twins chatter while they ate breakfast.

Next I had triplets (that were finally asleep after a horrid night) to wake up so we could celebrate their birthdays.
